President’s Office has refuted allegations certain government paperwork are being destroyed.

Spokesperson for President-elect Ibrahim Mohamed Solih (Ibu), MP Mariya Ahmed Didi stated during a press conference last Tuesday that they have filed a case with Maldives Police Service to investigate allegations of the destruction of government paperwork.

Following the statement, Spokesperson at President’s Office, Ibrahim Muaz Ali tweeted that the government will not destroy paperwork of any of its institutions, adding that each government office has a shredder to destroy paper waste.

He also advised not to spread allegations which could create mistrust and division within the community.

Mariya warned during Tuesday’s press conference that the incoming government will hold anyone who destroys government documents accountable when they assume power.
