Parliament to consider Shareef’s nomination to EC on Monday

The People’s Majlis has tabled a vote on accepting or rejecting President’s nomination of Ahmed Shareef, the Managing Director of Fenaka Corporation, for the vacant seat at Elections Commission, for the sitting on Monday.

Shareef has confirmed to “Sun” he has applied for the vacant seat at EC. Shareef’s is also President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom’s nominee for the post.

Shareef, who served as MP for Thimarafushi constituency after winning a by-election during the last parliamentary term, also served as Secretary-General of EC.

Application for EC membership was opened after the former President of EC, Ahmed Sulaiman resigned from his post in February.

Ahmed Ali, the Secretary-General of EC also resigned from the commission in February.
