Three police officers have been arrested for suspected complicity in an illegal attempt to overthrow incumbent President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom’s administration.
“Sun” has been informed all three suspects are Special Operations (SO) police officers, and that all three were arrested from the capital, Male’ City.
The police have not been forthcoming with any details regarding the arrests.
However, “Sun” has been informed two of the officers belong to northern atolls.
The arrests come after President Yameen publicly declared five police officers have been dismissed from the service for suspected complicity in an attempt to overthrow his administration.
Former Commander of the SWAT (Special Weapons and Tactics) Unit, Hussain Saif was recently dismissed from the police service. “Sun” has been informed five more police officers were arrested with Saif at the time.
