Tump and Modi discuss Maldives over the phone

US President, Donald Trump and the Indian Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, has discussed the political state of the Maldives over the phone.

White House said that the two discussed topics including the the war in Afghanistan and the plight of Rohingya refugees from Myanmar as well.

The US President and the Indian Prime Minister, both, expressed concerned over the state of the Maldives and talked about the importance of the Maldives respecting democratic institutions and the rule of law, according ot the White House.

The two leaders also agreed to work together to maintain security in the Indo-Pacific region.

With the turbulent political state of the country, President Abdulla Yameen has sent three Ministers as envoys to friendly nations such as China, Pakistan and Saudi Arabia to brief them on a political crisis that spurred the imposition of a state of emergency.

The leaders also discussed the security in Afghanistan and the North Korean nuclear program.
