According to the latest statistics from the Finance Ministry, the state has spent MVR 219.7 million on official travel-related expenses so far this year.
The record-breaking MVR 64 billion budget for this year allocated a total of MVR 273.6 million for travel-related expenses.
Data released by the Ministry shows that, as of October 29, the government had spent MVR 219.7 million on travel, accounting for 80 percent of the total allocation for this purpose.
During the corresponding period last year, the state spent MVR 226.7 million on travel, representing a three percent decrease in expenditure compared to the current year.
Although travel expenditure has declined so far this year, historical data shows that spending on travel has often significantly exceeded the allocated budgets in previous years.
The government had previously introduced the proactive disclosure of expenses incurred during President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu’s official overseas trips through the President’s Office. However, the publication of these detailed expense reports has been suspended for some time.
