The Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) says the airport in F. Magoodhoo will be the earliest to reach completion among the airports currently under development, while work on the HDh. Makunudhoo airport has only just begun.
Speaking on TVM and Voice of Maldives programme on Saturday, MTCC Managing Director Ahmed Saudee said Magoodhoo Airport is progressing rapidly and is expected to be completed soon. In contrast, he described Makunudhoo Airport as being “at a very early stage.”
Saudee also highlighted progress on other regional airports. He said the runway at R. Alifushi requires expansion and additional dredging, while dredging for the Th. Guraidhoo airport is nearly complete. MTCC’s portion of the work in Guraidhoo is almost finished, with the remaining components to be carried out by MACL.
Magoodhoo Airport is a MVR 232 million project. The previous administration planned additional facilities, including a jet parking apron, a VIP terminal, a fuel farm, and a crew hotel. Construction was suspended in March last year and resumed in July.
Makunudhoo, one of the most isolated islands in the north, was announced as an airport development site by President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu in late August last year.
