ADK Hospital has appointed Dr. Adeel Shareef as Deputy Managing Director (DMD).

According to ADK, the appointment, made on October 1, comes as the hospital strengthens its leadership and advances into its next phase of growth, innovation and transformation.

Announcing the appointment, ADK said that Adeel brings a combination of clinical experience, international education and healthcare leadership, together with a deep understanding of ADK Hospital.

Adeel began his professional career at ADK as a Medical Officer after completing his MBBS at Dalian Medical University in China. He subsequently moved to Australia as an Australia Awards Scholarship recipient, completing dual Master's degrees in Global Health and Health Leadership and Management at the University of New South Wales (UNSW).

His academic achievements were recognized in 2023 with the Australasian Epidemiological Association Top Student Prize for his performance at UNSW. In 2024, Adeel was named among the Australian Financial Review's Top 100 Future Leaders, recognizing emerging leaders across Australian universities.

Over the past two years, Adeel served as Director of Strategy and Innovation at ADK Hospital, where he played a key role in the hospital's transformation agenda, including digital transformation, strategic development, major hospital projects, organizational change, service improvement and patient journey optimization.

He also continues to contribute to clinical care as a Dive Medicine and Hyperbaric Physician at ADK Hospital's Hyperbaric Treatment Unit.

ADK says that Adeel's transition from Director of Strategy and Innovation to Deputy Managing Director represents a natural progression of this work.

While his previous role focused on developing and driving strategic initiatives for the hospital's future, the DMD role expands that responsibility to the broader leadership and management of the institution, connecting strategy with execution across clinical, operational and organizational functions.

Adeel described his new appointment as an exciting opportunity to continue contributing to ADK’s legacy.

"I look forward to working with the leadership team and our dedicated colleagues to build on this legacy and drive the hospital towards making an even greater contribution to the development of healthcare in the Maldives,” he said.

“I remain committed to ensuring that both the people we work with and the patients we care for are supported, respected, and cared for to the best of our ability.”

ADK says that the appointment comes as the hospital undertakes significant investments in infrastructure, technology, clinical capabilities and patient experience.

As the hospital continues to expand and modernize, Adeel will work alongside Managing Director Ahmed Afaal and the wider leadership team to strengthen clinical excellence, patient-centered care, operational performance, innovation, digital transformation and sustainable growth.

"I have known Adeel since the beginning of his career and have every confidence in his skills, education and ability to lead. I wish him every success as he takes on this important role in shaping ADK Hospital's future." Said Afaal.

ADK says that Adeel's appointment represents both a continuation of ADK's legacy and an investment in its future, bringing together nearly four decades of institutional experience with a new generation of healthcare leadership and a strong focus on innovation and transformation.
