Yameen Idrees appointed MD of Maldives Awqaf Investments

Yameen Idrees, former head of Maldives Hajj Corporation, has been appointed as the managing director of Maldives Awqaf Investments.

Awqaf Investments, a new state-owned enterprise charged with managing waqf or endowment properties across the Maldives, was established by President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu on September 12.

The Privatization and Corporatization Board (PCB) on Thursday announced the appointment of members to the company’s board.

Yameen Idrees has been appointed as the company’s managing director, while Sheikh Izzuddin Adnan, the director general of Maldives Zakat House, has been appointed as the company’s chairperson.

The PCB also announced the appointment of four more board members. They are:

  • Mohamed Hilmy
  • Abdulla Ali
  • Maryam Nihayath
  • Dr. Mohamed Shujau
  • Hussain Sham Adam, state minister for finance

Awqaf Investments was established in line with President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu administration’s policy to develop, maintain and manage properties across the Maldives, with the aim of generating sustainable funding for religious affairs.

The company is also mandated to undertake the construction, maintenance and refurbishment of mosques across the country; provide, improve and upgrade essential mosque facilities; and engage in sustainable, Sharia-compliant commercial activities.
