An investigation has been launched into a case involving the alleged sexual abuse of a young boy on an island in northern Maldives.

In a statement to the media, the Police confirmed that they are investigating a report of sexual assault involving a boy under the age of 18 on an island within the North Police Division. However, authorities have not disclosed further details regarding the incident.

While there has been a notable increase in reported cases of sexual abuse involving female minors, similar incidents involving male minors also continue to be reported periodically.

There is significant concern over the prevalence of child sexual abuse in the Maldives, with experts suggesting that many such cases remain unreported to the relevant authorities.

As cases involving minors are treated with the utmost sensitivity and seriousness, the Police have urged the public and media to refrain from disclosing any personal information that could lead to the identification of the victim.
