Minister: MVR 1.2mn spent on assistance to Islamic organizations over last two years

Islamic Minister Dr. Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed says the government has provided MVR 1.2 million in assistance to religious organizations over the last two years.

Addressing the opening of the religious NGOs’ annual meeting on Saturday morning, Shaheem reiterated the Islamic Ministry’s commitment to assisting Islamic organizations secure the resources they need, including to establish Islamic studios and Quran classes.

“We have spent MVR 1.2 million over the past two years to help religious organizations secure various resources. This includes providing resources to establish Islamic studios and for Quran classes,” he said.

Shaheem added that the Islamic Ministry was also working on establishing sustainable financial resources for organizations that operate well.

“The Ministry of Islamic Affairs and Endowments has worked very closely with and assisted organizations in the Islamic field over the last two-three years,” he said.

Shaheem said that efforts to spread the message of Islam faces major challenges, and that cooperation was key to overcoming these challenges and ensuring the success of such efforts.

The annual meeting of religious NGOs is being attended by over 60 representatives from 53 different organizations.
