Deadline for Uligan yacht marina tender extended to October 5

The deadline for submitting Expressions of Interest (EOI) for the development and operation of a yacht marina in Haa Alif Uligan, the northernmost island of the Maldives, has been extended to October 5.

The EOI submission was originally scheduled to close at 2:00 pm on September 21, but Maldives Ports Limited (MPL) has postponed the deadline to allow more time for interested parties. MPL said any questions regarding the project may be submitted via email before 2:00 pm on September 30.

According to MPL, the main objective of the project is to identify an experienced master developer or operator capable of transforming Uligan into a high-quality maritime and tourism destination.

The 70,471-square-meter land area required for the marina has already been allocated under an agreement signed between MPL and the Uligan Council on August 1, 2024.

MPL will undertake the core infrastructure works of the marina, including a five-metre-deep basin, outer canal, jetty, floating pontoon system, and an ISPS-compliant international entry facility.

The selected contractor will be responsible for operating the marina and developing complementary facilities such as a hotel or boutique resort, restaurants, angler services, watersports, and wellness amenities to promote Uligan internationally.

Uligan lies along a key Indian Ocean yacht route, with a large number of vessels stopping at the island each year on journeys connecting Southeast Asia, the Middle East, Africa, and the Mediterranean. The government and MPL aim to formalize this existing traffic into a sustainable marina economy by providing improved systems and services.

MPL said both individual companies and joint ventures may submit EOIs. Interested parties must submit their proposals in PDF format, along with audit reports for the past three years and a bank reference letter, to MPL’s tender email.

This EOI marks the first phase of the competitive tender process. A Request for Proposal (RFP) will be issued to shortlisted candidates to submit detailed proposals.
