Fahumy: Government payments resume, 31 stalled MWSC projects to continue

The state-owned water company MWSC says 31 ongoing projects will continue as the government has now resumed funding. The update was shared on Wednesday by the company’s Managing Director Hussain Fahumy.

Speaking to reporters, Fahumy said the company’s projects will proceed without interruption.

“Then the projects will continue. The government has now started paying”, MD Hussain Fahumy said.

Fahumy said the top priority is currently the F. Nilandhoo water and sewerage project. Describing the situation on the island, he said sewage surfaces on the ground with even the slightest rain.

MWSC is working on 31 water and sewerage projects. These include the GA. Gemanafushi sewerage system and the R. Dhuvaafaru water and sewerage system, as well as establishing a water and sewerage system in the dredged area of Feydhoo in Addu City.

The company has also been awarded several rural land reclamation projects.

It is noteworthy that the opposition has criticized the government for stalling projects in rural areas. Many projects initiated by the previous administration have been halted, and the MDP has also expressed dissatisfaction.
