The Maldives and Malaysia are set to sign Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) on important bilateral issues during Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim’s state visit to the Maldives.

According to the President’s Office, Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim is scheduled to undertake a state visit to the Maldives from September 14th to September 15th: a visit undertaken at the invitation of Maldivian President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu.

The Malaysian Prime Minister is expected to hold official talks with President Muizzu on strengthening bilateral and multilateral cooperation and exploring new areas of partnership between the two countries.

Anwar’s visit will mark his first trip to the Maldives since assuming office in November 2022. President Muizzu extended the invitation during his official visit to Malaysia in April 2025.

During his stay, Vice President Hussain Mohamed Latheef, Parliament Speaker Abdul Raheem Abdulla and Foreign Minister Iruthisham Adam are also scheduled to pay courtesy calls on the Malaysian Prime Minister.

The Maldives and Malaysia established diplomatic relations 58 years ago and have maintained longstanding ties through people-to-people exchanges, high-level visits and development cooperation.
