Abdul Raheem dismisses talk of a 'silent revolution', says Parliament is a solid wall behind President Muizzu

Speaker of Parliament and People’s National Congress (PNC) Chairperson Abdul Raheem Abdulla, once one of former President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom’s closest political lieutenants, has said Yameen “cannot do anything” from inside Parliament, insisting that PNC MPs now stand “like a single, unbreakable wall” behind President Dr Mohamed Muizzu.

Abdul Raheem made the remarks at a rally held at the People’s National Front (PNF) office on Saturday, responding to Yameen’s recent suggestion that several PNC MPs were unhappy with amendments to the Foreign Exchange Act and that a “silent revolution” might be brewing within Parliament.

Addressing the crowd, Abdul Raheem said Yameen should act wisely and support the Muizzu administration rather than attempt to stir unrest. He recalled that Muizzu, upon winning the presidency, immediately called for Yameen’s transfer to house arrest the very first time he addressed the public as President-elect.

“If President Yameen were sane today, he would stand to maintain President Muizzu’s government,” Abdul Raheem said. “Look at what President Muizzu did, the moment he came to power, he called for Yameen’s transfer home. That was his first act as President-elect.”

He said the current administration has restored justice and made the streets safe, adding that development is not merely the construction of bridges but the creation of a peaceful and stable society. He also claimed the government is paying off debts taken by previous administrations.

“The debt this government is paying off was not taken by us,” he said. “We paid off the debt that President Yameen, Ibrahim Mohamed Solih and two others took. That debt has been settled, and we are moving forward with development today. That is the greatness of President Muizzu, and we did not take further loans to pay off this one.”

Responding directly to Yameen and his team, Abdul Raheem said he would campaign “fiercely” to secure a second term for President Muizzu in 2028.

“I want to tell President Yameen that nothing can be done through Parliament,” he said. “All MPs are united and strong like one wall with President Muizzu.”
