Shaheeb Media has successfully concluded its ‘Advanced Media Sensitization Training Program’ for media and public relations (PR) officers from various government offices and corporations, with certificates presented to 25 participants last night.
The certificates were awarded to graduates of the 10-day program, which was held in Malé from August 23 to Thursday, by Chief Guest and Minister of Youth and Sports Abdulla Rafiu. Other distinguished guests who presented certificates included State Minister for Foreign Affairs Dr. Mohamed Fahmy Hassan, State Minister for Foreign Affairs Abdulla Hameed and Dhidhdhoo MP Abdul Latheef Mohamed.
Speaking at the ceremony, Dr. Fahmy stressed that verification should be the foremost priority in news dissemination. He noted that, long before the establishment of modern press freedom, Islam had emphasized the importance of verifying the accuracy and truthfulness of information. He also underscored that protecting human dignity and reputation are principles accorded significant importance in Islamic teachings.
Representing the participants, Mariyam Neena, a Customer Service Executive at Island Aviation, said the 20-hour training provided them with invaluable knowledge and practical lessons. She said the experience had renewed their commitment to engaging effectively with the media to strengthen their organizations' public image. Neena also noted that the programme provided greater clarity on how to prepare news reports in simple and accessible Dhivehi that can be easily understood by the general public.
The program was conducted by Mohamed Shaheeb, President and CEO of Shaheeb Media, who has 35 years of experience in Maldivian journalism. Guest lectures were delivered by Chief Government’s Chief Spokesperson pokesperson Mohamed Hussain Shareef and Bank of Maldives (BML)’s Spokesperson Mohamed Saeed.
In his remarks, Shaheeb praised the participants for their enthusiasm, noting that they attended two-hour sessions each night for 10 consecutive days without fatigue, with 99 percent of participants achieving a near-perfect attendance rate of 100 percent. He also expressed gratitude to Mohamed Rasheed, Principal of Ahmadhiyya International School, and his staff for their support in hosting the training programs.
Shaheeb Media has established itself as one of the Maldives' leading media organizations, having trained a significant number of journalists over the past two decades.
