Four suspects arrested over the deliberate motorcycle strike that seriously injured a police officer on the Sinamale' Bridge early Saturday have all tested positive for drugs, according to Criminal Court orders issued on Saturday.

The incident occurred at 4:29 am, when a motorcycle was driven directly into a police checkpoint during a special operation targeting dangerous driving. The officer sustained mouth injuries, broken teeth and other serious injuries, while the cyclist was not seriously hurt. Police on-scene stopped the vehicle and took its occupants into custody.

Police Commissioner Ahmed Mohamed later issued a statement saying two additional suspects and another motorcycle involved in the incident were later recovered and arrested, bringing the total number of suspects to four. All four tested positive for drugs.

The Criminal Court ordered all four suspects to be remanded for five days, noting that they requested access to legal counsel during the hearing.

Homeland Security Minister Ali Ihusaan visited the injured officer at ADK Hospital, accompanied by Deputy Commissioner Farhad Fikry. Police said the officer is believed to have been deliberately struck in an attempt to disrupt the ongoing crackdown on reckless driving.
