Hulhumale' Hospital launches three new specialist services

Three new specialist health services, including neurology, were inaugurated at Hulhumale' Hospital on Saturday.

The services were launched by Health Minister Geela Ali at a ceremony held at the hospital.

The newly introduced services include gastroenterology (treatment of stomach and intestinal diseases), neurology (treatment of nervous system disorders), and urology (treatment of urinary tract diseases).

The Health Ministry said the introduction of these services will make it easier for the public to access specialist care. It also noted the growing number of Maldivian doctors entering fields in which locals had not previously worked.

Male' City Group of Hospitals CEO Ibrahim Abdul Razzaq Haleem said earlier that 16 doctors have joined Dharumavantha Hospital and IGMH so far this year after completing specialist training. He said they include specialists and sub-specialists trained in fields that are entirely new to the country.

Among the newly joined doctors this year are specialists in neuro-interventional radiology and pediatric dentistry.

In addition, IGMH has recently decided to introduce robotic surgery, which the hospital says will help reduce the cost of major operations that patients currently seek abroad.
