Maldives and the United States have discussed expanding trade opportunities as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen economic cooperation between the two countries.
The Ministry of Economic Development said in a post on X on Tuesday that Minister Mohamed Saeed met with Dave Williams, the US Charge' d’Affaires in Maldives, to explore ways to deepen economic ties. According to the ministry, the discussions focused on increasing trade and investment flows between Maldives and the United States.

Minister Saeed, in a separate post on X, also highlighted that the meeting centred on further strengthening bilateral economic relations.
Maldives and the United States established diplomatic relations in 1966. The US continues to support Maldives in areas including democratic governance, climate adaptation, and development assistance.
