Ferry terminal, parking zone to be developed at vacant plot in front of BML HQ

The Malé City Council has resolved to develop a modern ferry terminal with integrated motorcycle parking on the vacant plot in front of the Bank of Maldives (BML) headquarters on Boduthakurufaanu Magu.

The proposal was submitted during Wednesday's council meeting by Hulhumalé North Councilor Fathimath Zahiyya.

The site, which was designated as a motorcycle parking area following the redevelopment of Boduthakurufaanu Magu, currently remains an open space without any permanent infrastructure.

Council members unanimously voted to forward the proposal to the Council's Urban Planning Committee for further review and evaluation before any final decision is made.

According to the proposed design, the ground floor will accommodate the ferry terminal, providing passengers travelling between Malé and other islands with a dedicated waiting area. The plans also include separate restroom facilities for men and women, a convenience store and a prayer room on the same level.

The first and second floors have been designated as motorcycle parking areas to help ease parking shortages and traffic congestion in the surrounding area.

The top floor is planned to feature food courts, with elevator access included to improve accessibility for visitors.

Councilor Zahiya said the project would enhance convenience for both residents and ferry passengers. She added that the commercial spaces incorporated into the development, including the convenience store and food courts, would also generate a sustainable source of revenue for the Malé City Council.
