Visit Maldives has concluded one of its most prominent India-focused celebrity destination collaborations of 2026, hosting internationally acclaimed Indian music star, television personality, Indian Idol judge and Visit Maldives Cultural Ambassador Badshah on an exclusive four-day content production trip across the Maldives.

Hosted by Hideaway Beach Resort & Spa, the collaboration brought together one of India's most influential cultural figures with one of the world's leading island destinations. The campaign was strategically developed to strengthen the Maldives' presence in the Indian market, reinforce destination appeal and inspire millions of Indian travellers through authentic, high-impact digital storytelling.

India remains a strategically significant source market for the Maldives. Its geographical proximity, strong air connectivity, expanding middle class and increasing demand for international leisure travel position it as one of the country's most promising long-term tourism markets. The Maldives is particularly well placed to attract Indian honeymooners, couples, families, luxury travellers, wedding groups, corporate visitors and younger travellers seeking convenient international getaways.

India has also consistently been a major contributor to the Maldives' tourism industry. It became the country's largest source market for the first time in 2020 and retained the top position in 2021 and 2022, recording 291,787 and 241,382 arrivals, respectively. In 2023, India remained the leading source market, accounting for 209,193 arrivals, representing 11.1 percent of total tourist arrivals.

This sustained performance highlights the Indian market's capacity to generate high visitor numbers while supporting a broad range of tourism segments, including luxury resorts, private island experiences, guesthouses, local islands and liveaboards. As a result, strengthening demand from India continues to be a key priority within Visit Maldives' broader strategy to diversify source markets and drive sustainable tourism growth.

With a vast international audience and billions of cumulative music and video streams, Badshah commands significant influence among audiences in India and across the South Asian diaspora. His reach extends beyond music into television, entertainment, fashion, lifestyle and popular culture, making him a strategic partner for promoting the Maldives to a new generation of travelers.

During the visit, Badshah participated in a carefully curated itinerary designed to showcase the diversity and sophistication of a Maldivian holiday experience. Hosted at Hideaway Beach Resort & Spa, the programs featured secluded island experiences, personalized hospitality, wellness offerings, marine adventures, private yacht excursions, fine dining and authentic cultural experiences.

The campaign positions the Maldives not only as a luxury destination but also as one capable of offering privacy, adventure, romance, family experiences, wellness and meaningful cultural connections within a single holiday.

As part of the collaboration, Badshah created a range of premium destination content that will be released across his social media platforms in the coming weeks. The campaign deliverables include an Instagram Reel, carousel posts, Instagram Stories and a long-form YouTube vlog.

The content is designed to seamlessly integrate the Maldives into Badshah's travel experience while highlighting the hospitality, privacy, natural beauty and personalized experiences offered by Hideaway Beach Resort & Spa. Its multi-platform approach aims to engage audiences throughout the travel decision-making process, from initial inspiration and destination discovery to holiday planning and booking.

Visit Maldives Corporation’s Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director Ibrahim Shiuree emphasized that India is not simply another source market for the Maldives, but rather one of the most important markets for the future of Maldives’ tourism industry.

“It has repeatedly demonstrated its ability to deliver arrivals at scale, support different categories of tourism businesses and respond strongly to destination marketing and improved connectivity,” he added.

Shiuree said Visit Maldives’ collaboration with Badshah is therefore a strategic investment in strengthening the Maldives’ relationship with Indian travellers, adding his influence across music, culture, entertainment and digital media allows to communicate with millions of consumers in an authentic and highly engaging way.

"Through this campaign, Visit Maldives want to remind Indian travelers that the Maldives is close, accessible and extraordinarily diverse. Whether they are seeking a short luxury escape, honeymoon, family holiday, celebration, wellness retreat or adventure, there is a Maldivian experience for them. Our objective is to translate Badshah’s reach into renewed destination interest, stronger travel demand and sustainable long-term growth from India," he explained.

The collaboration comes at a time of significant expansion in India's outbound travel market. India recorded more than 27 million international departures in 2023, while the World Travel & Tourism Council projects outbound travel expenditure to more than double from USD 34.6 billion in 2025 to USD 71.8 billion by 2036. These projections position India among the world's fastest-growing outbound tourism markets.

As of July 19, the Maldives had welcomed 68,933 tourists from India, accounting for 6.0 percent of total arrivals and making India the country's sixth-largest source market. During the same period, the Maldives recorded a total of 1,154,980 tourist arrivals across all markets.

Visit Maldives views the current market position as an opportunity to accelerate growth and restore India's contribution to previous levels. The organisation stated that targeted partnerships with leading cultural personalities, airlines, travel companies, digital platforms, media organizations and tourism industry stakeholders will remain central to achieving this objective.

The Badshah collaboration forms part of Visit Maldives' broader strategy to partner with internationally recognised personalities whose influence extends beyond entertainment into travel, lifestyle and culture. By combining the unique experiences offered by the Maldives with the reach of one of India's most recognisable cultural figures, the campaign is expected to generate significant global visibility, strengthen emotional connections with the destination and inspire a new generation of Indian travellers to experience the Sunny Side of Life.
