CP announces stricter measures on repeat traffic offenders

Police Commissioner Ahmed Mohamed says special measures will be taken against people who repeatedly violate road-traffic laws and regulations.

In a message posted on police social media on Tuesday, the CP said the rights and safety of many people are being compromised because of a small number of individuals who refuse to follow basic road-traffic rules.

He said the Police Service will therefore implement targeted action against repeat offenders of traffic laws. The measures, he said, are aimed at keeping roads safe and secure for all citizens.

The CP said the strictest steps will be taken to prevent dangerous incidents from recurring due to the actions of a few individuals. He added that all relevant departments within the Police Service have been instructed to enforce these measures at the highest level, in collaboration with all related institutions.

The measures will be implemented in the Greater Malé Area as well as in the atolls, he said.

The CP urged the public to extend full cooperation to the Maldives Police Service.

Recently, there has been an increase in dangerous accidents, including incidents captured on video showing reckless driving on bridges and highways. Police have been investigating these cases. Traffic congestion has risen in the capital, and accidents, injuries, and fatalities have also increased.
