Youth arrested after drugs found in car after crash

A young man involved in car crash was detained by the police on Friday, after officers responding to the accident found a rubber packet containing what they believe to be drugs from the vehicle.

Gais Abdulla Anees, 27, a native of GDh. Madaveli who currently resides in Male’ City, was presented at Criminal Court on Saturday for his remand hearing.

He is accused of the use and possession of narcotics.

The court warrant for his remand shows the police recovered a rubber packet containing suspected narcotics from the car.

The preliminary results of his urine analysis came back positive for CAT (methcathinone) and amphetamines.

The court warrant also shows he has a history for arrests in similar cases.

He was remanded in custody of the police for 15 days.

During the hearing, Gais asked for time to appoint a lawyer.

The court instructed the police to file for a review of his remand once he hires a lawyer.
