Man accused of trespassing into police building’s garage, causing damage

Sergeant Adam Haleem Criminal Investigation Building in Malé: A man has been arrested for trespassing the garage area in building and causing damage.

A man has been arrested on suspicion of unlawfully entering the garage area of the Sergeant Adam Haleem Criminal Investigation Building in Malé.

The suspect, a 31-year-old man from Fuvahmulah City, was presented for a remand hearing on Saturday.

According to the remand order, the Police have accused the suspect of entering the vehicle garage of the Sergeant Adam Haleem Criminal Investigation Building without authorization, and damaging property. However, the details of the alleged damage caused by the suspect has not been disclosed.

The order further stated that sufficient evidence exists to establish reasonable suspicion against the suspect including reports submitted by responding police officers as well as snapshots from CCTV footage. The court also noted that the individual has a prior history of arrests and detention.

The suspect denied the allegations brought against him.

However, the Criminal Court remanded him in custody for 15 days, citing concerns that his release could pose a risk to public safety.

 

Located in Henveiru, the Sergeant Adam Haleem Criminal Investigation Building is dedicated for investigation of major criminal cases and was officially commissioned for use in 2023.
