The polling time for Friday’s MDP chairmanship election has been extended by 30 minutes.
Voting was initially scheduled from 2:30 pm to 8:00 pm, but the party announced on Thursday that polling will now run until 8:30 pm. The MDP did not specify the reason for the extension.
Former President and former MDP Chairman Mohamed Nasheed and Galolhu South MP Meekail Ahmed Naseem are contesting for the post. The third candidate, Ibrahim Mohamed, withdrew his name earlier, declaring his support for Meekail.
Nasheed is campaigning alongside former MDP chairman Fayyaz Ismail, while Meekail is backed by former President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih and many of his associates.
Meekail’s campaign activities concluded on Wednesday, while Nasheed’s campaign will end on Thursday evening.
