Zakat-al Mal distributed at MVR 5,500 per person; up 10% from last year

The Maldives Zakat House has distributed MVR 5,500 per person as this year’s Zakat al-Mal.

The figure marks a 10 percent increase from last year, when the Zakat House distributed Zakat al-Mal at the rate of MVR 5,000 per person.

According to a statement released by the Zakat House on Thursday, Zakat al-Mal funds were deposited for a total of 2,384 individuals registered on the registry of the poor and needy as of the 1st of Dhu al-Hijjah 1447.

This amounted to a grand total of MVR 13,112,000.

Zakat House said that the amount distributed per person this year was an increase compared to last year, and also marks the highest amount distributed per person as Zakat al-Mal to date.
