New ‘Sea Scout’ vessel launched as part of private‑sector push for sustainable coastal conservation

SAS e Construction Pvt Ltd has officially launched the SAS e Sea Scout, the first vessel of its kind in the Maldives.

The vessel was unveiled at a special ceremony held at the company’s Thilafushi site on the 8th of this month, in connection with this year’s World Oceans Day.

The launch was officiated by Climate Change, Environment and Energy Minister Ali Shareef.

Speaking at the ceremony, the Minister praised the initiative, noting that such efforts help revive the spirit of environmental protection and safeguard the Maldives’ sensitive marine ecosystems.

The SAS e Sea Scout is designed to remove garbage and plastic from coastal areas and surrounding waters. The company describes it as a significant step that reflects SAS e Construction’s commitment to environmental responsibility and sustainable business practices.

The ceremony was attended by officials from the Ministry of Climate Change, Environment and Energy, Housing Development Corporation (HDC), SAS e Construction Managing Director Abdullah Sawad, shareholders, and company employees.

During the event, the Managing Director presented a plaque to the Minister.

The introduction of the SAS e Sea Scout demonstrates how innovative thinking within the private sector can contribute meaningfully to environmental protection.

The company says this is an important milestone in its history and will help raise awareness on coastal conservation while benefiting the community as a whole.
