Former Minister Adam Naseer appointed as advisor at President’s Office

Former Minister of Dhivehi Language, Culture and Heritage Adam Naseer Ibrahim has been appointed as an advisor at the President’s Office.

Adam Naseer, who was among 10 ministers asked to resign from President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu’s cabinet in April, was appointed to the new role on Monday.

Adam Naseer was part of President Muizzu’s original 22-member cabinet. But he, along with nine other ministers, were asked to resign on April 14.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Dhivehi Language, Culture and Heritage that Adam Naseer headed was dissolved.

The major reshuffle came after the ruling People’s National Congress (PNC) suffered a heavy defeat on April 4 in the local council elections and a referendum seeking to combine presidential and parliamentary elections.

The President’s Office said at the time that they had resigned to provide room for President Muizzu to run the government “in accordance with the aspirations of the people.”

Some of the ministers who were forced to resign were later reappointed to senior government posts.

Former Health Minister Abdulla Nazim Ibrahim was reappointed to the President’s Office as the Principal Secretary to the President on Policy and Manifesto – a minister-level position.

Meanwhile, former Local Government Minister Adam Shareef Umar and former Environment Minister Thoriq Ibrahim were both appointed as Ambassador-at-Large.
