The national airline, Maldivian states it operated over 200 additional flights during the recent Eid al-Adha holiday.

The government closure on May 24 and 25 had lengthened the Eid holidays, allowing people a nine-day break that many used to travel both domestically and internationally.

A spokesperson from Maldivian told Sun on Sunday that the airline operated more than 200 additional flights beyond scheduled trips during the holiday.

According to Maldivian, it marked a 21 percent increase in flight operations over the planned schedule during Eid.

Eid is a period that seeks a huge rise in demand for flights.

At a press briefing last week, chief government spokesperson Mohamed Hussain Shareef (Mundhu) said that Maldivian had made preparations to meet the rise in demand. He said that the airline planned to increase the frequency of flights and sell around 64,000 seats during the holiday.

This year’s Eid had come amid strong winds and rough seas across the Maldives. However, this did not deter holiday travelers who embarked on trips to islands both via air and sea.
