The main opposition Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) has amended its voters’ list for the upcoming chairpersonship election, providing members with a three-day window to submit any complaints.

According to the party, it amended the tentative voters’ list based on complaints and re-registration requests.

The MDP opened the opportunity to submit complaints on Sunday.

Members may submit complaints by 02:00 pm Wednesday, announced the party.

The party added that it will not be entertaining any new complaints.

Three people are contesting the MDP chairpersonship election; former President Mohamed Nasheed, South Galolhu MP Meekail Ahmed Naseem and Ibrahim Mohamed (Waadu). But the greatest rivalry appears to be between Nasheed, who, who has endorsed Fayyaz Ismail for MDP’s 2028 presidential ticket and promises to implement “big changes” to the system of governance in the Maldives, and Meekail, who promises to bridge internal factions within the MDP and remain neutral in the presidential primary.

The tightly contested vote is set to take place on June 12.
