As part of the government’s ongoing efforts to strengthen the Maldivian healthcare system, Dharumavantha Hospital and Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) officially commenced surgical procedures using advanced laser technology on Monday.
Male’ City Group of Hospitals (MCGH)’s CEO Ibrahim Adbul Razzaq Haleem described the development as a major milestone in the advancement of the country’s healthcare sector.
According to Haleem, the general surgery team under the Department of Surgery is now equipped to perform four specialized procedures using laser technology. The are:
Haleem noted that the introduction of these services would provide several benefits for patients. In this regard, he explained that the procedures are minimally invasive and do not require major incisions, resulting in reduced pain and shorter recovery times. Moreover, their hospital stays would be significantly shortened, while the risk of post-operative infections would also be considerably lower.
MCGH extended gratitude to President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu for prioritizing the development of a modern and accessible healthcare system for the public. It also praised the surgery team and staff members from various departments for their contributions toward the successful launch of the services.
