Villimale' hospital services to continue at child facility during two-year tertiary hospital project

Male' City Group of Hospitals CEO Ibrahim Abdul Razzaq Haleem says Villimale' Hospital’s services will be shifted to the former Aman Hiyaa child facility this month, where they will continue temporarily while a new tertiary hospital is built on the current site.

Speaking to state media PSM, Haleem said finishing works at the Aman Hiyaa building are now underway to prepare it to function as a temporary hospital. He said an elevator is being installed and additional adjustments are being made to ensure services can continue without disruption.

Haleem said the relocation will be carried out in phases, with emergency services, OPD and vaccination moving first. He stressed that all essential services will remain available at the temporary facility throughout the construction period.

The relocation is scheduled to begin in the middle of this month.

The Housing Minister previously said that construction of the new tertiary hospital in Villimale' would begin mid-year and be completed within two years. On November 23 last year, he said the Chinese-funded project had reached the stage of finalizing documents to tender a design consultant, who was expected to meet relevant authorities in December and begin practical work within five months.

Minister Muthalib assured that the new hospital will be equipped with modern facilities once completed.

The Construction Ministry signed an agreement with the Chinese government in early June last year to design the hospital.
