Ali Shaahil, the prime suspect in the brutal murder of Shiaau Mohamed Saeed, has filed an appeal at the High Court against a three-year prison sentence recently issued following his conviction on multiple charges.

Shiaau Mohamed Saeed, 22, was found killed and dismembered in an apartment on the ninth floor of H. Sheereen Villa on August 6, 2022.

Ali Shaahil, 22, a local skater, was arrested from the scene of the crime.

Shaahil has been charged with five charges in the case, including murder with intent using a sharp-edged weapon, possession of pornography and using cannabis. Two of the charges have not been disclosed by the state.

He was sentenced to three years, one month, and six days in prison on April 14th after being found guilty on two charges, which have not been disclosed.

The High Court, which received the appeal on May 6th, has also withheld details of the charges that have been appealed. The court has yet to determine whether it will accept the appeal or not.

This appeal relates solely to the aforementioned sentence, while Shaahil’s trial on the remaining charges, including murder with intent, is ongoing at the Criminal Court.

Shaahil has been held in custody since August 7, 2022, after the Criminal Court ordered his remand pending trial.

Police previously stated that the post-mortem report showed Shiaau had suffered severe injuries after death, and that the findings indicated she died from injuries inflicted by Shaahil.
