The Ministry of Defence and the Australian Border Force Command have signed an important Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to strengthen civilian maritime safety and security.
According to the Defence Ministry, the two countries will conduct joint exercises and coordinate maritime operations under the agreement.
The MoU also establishes a cooperation framework for information‑sharing and technical expertise.
The primary objective of the agreement is to further enhance operational coordination between the two countries and enable faster, more effective responses to regional maritime security challenges.
A Memorandum of Understanding concerning Civil Maritime Security was signed today between the Ministry of Defence and National Service and the Australian Border Force Command.

The Defence Ministry noted that President Dr Mohamed Muizzu’s administration places special priority on ensuring the security and safety of the Maldives.
A similar agreement was signed with Australia late last month, under which Australia donated a brand‑new Guardian‑class patrol boat to the Maldives as part of its Defence Cooperation Program.
The vessel will strengthen the Maldives’ ability to manage its Exclusive Economic Zone, prevent illegal activities and support disaster‑response operations. The donation is seen as a significant symbol of the long‑standing defence partnership and trust between the two countries.
