White alert for heavy rain and thunderstorms over large part of Maldives

Maldives Meteorological Service issued a white weather alert on Saturday, forecasting heavy rain and thunderstorms across a large party of the country.

The white alert is in place for the area from HA. Atoll to GDh. Atoll from 02:00 pm to until at least 08:00 pm.

The weather agency expects the area to be affected by heavy rain and thunderstorms, with gusts of 40 miles per hour.

The current spell of bad weather has been attributed to the monsoon transitional period, as the Iruvai Monsoon transitions into Hulhangu Monsoon.

The greater Male' area had experienced heavy rain and thunderstorms on Tuesday night, with lightning strikes  reported in Hulhumale’, resulting in structural damage to at least one building.
