Maldivian President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu is scheduled to embark on a four-day state visit to Sri Lanka next week.
According to a statement released by the President’s Office on Thursday, the visit is at the invitation of Sri Lankan President Anura Kumara Dissanayake, who had visited the Maldives last year.
President Muizzu will be in Sri Lanka from Sunday to Wednesday.
The President’s Office states that during the visit, President Muizzu will meet high-level dignitaries of Sri Lanka, and hold official talks with President Dissanayake towards enhancing the close relations between the two countries.
The two leaders are also scheduled to oversee the exchange of Memoranda of Understanding (MOUs) in various sectors.
President Muizzu will be accompanied by First Lady Sajidha Mohamed and a delegation comprising cabinet ministers and senior government officials.
The President’s Office said that he remains “firmly committed to further strengthening relations with countries that make significant contributions to the Maldives' development and progress.”
President Disanayaka had visited the Maldives in July last year. The visit coincided with the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries, and is described by the President’s Office as “a testament to their close and enduring friendship” between the two neighbors.
