Former President Mohamed Nasheed has issued a warning to the government after police entered the office of Adhadhu, the outlet that published a documentary making serious allegations against President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu.

On the 28th of last month, Adhadhu published a documentary based on an interview given by an anonymous individual. On Monday evening, the outlet reported that police were searching its office in connection with the documentary.

Police said the search was conducted under a court order as part of an ongoing investigation. No further details were disclosed.

Nasheed, who is campaigning for the MDP chairmanship, referred to the incident at a rally in Malé on Monday evening. He said former party chairperson Fayyaz Ismail had informed him that police had entered Adhadhu’s office.

“Let me tell you, no. Don’t come at us. Don’t try to do these things to us. Don’t take away press freedom. We will not back down; we will move forward, very fast,” Nasheed said.

Nasheed entered politics after working for press freedom. During the rule of former President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom, he sustained multiple injuries in prison while advocating for freedom of expression.
