Nine senior social service workers sought for National Centre for Mental Health

Health Ministry has made an announcement on Sunday seeking nine senior social service workers for the National Centre for Mental Health.

The salary for the post has been stated as MVR 12,261 as basic salary with MVR 5,721 in allowances.

The duties associated with this shift-based position include addressing psychological concerns reported through the helpline and coordinating home visits to assess the living conditions of individuals with mental health conditions, with the aim of ensuring their safety and well-being.

Additionally, in accordance with established protocols, the role entails carrying out essential tasks to provide support, responding attentively to helpline calls, and maintaining confidential records of callers’ information.

The primary responsibilities of this position also include:
• Coordinating with families and relevant authorities to safeguard the rights of individuals experiencing psychological distress and ensuring that their basic needs are met
• Conducting assessments and developing action plans for individuals requiring mental health support
• Providing immediate assistance and intervention in emergency situations involving patients
• Advocating for mental well-being and promoting mental health awareness among the general public
• Actively contributing to response efforts during public health emergencies and disasters.

The recruitment of nine Senior Social Service Workers for the Mental Health Centre follows an incident involving the suicide of an 18-year-old female student at the Maldives National University (MNU) hostel. Home Minister Ali Ihusaan came under public scrutiny after he disclosed sensitive personal information concerning the deceased during a press conference.

Minister Ihusaan’s actions prompted widespread criticism on social media, with numerous individuals calling for his resignation.

Notably, personal information of victims has been previously disclosed by authorities in response to criticism of their actions or investigation, including in the case of a young girl who fell on a roof in Male’.
