Youth arrested on suspicion of using crypto to sell child sex abuse imagery

A young man has been arrested on suspicion of using cryptocurrency to sell child sexual abuse images and videos.

Adam Adhlan Latheef, 22, Moonimaage, Th. Vilufushi, was arrested under a court order on April 5, following an investigation by the Family and Child Protection Department. He was remanded for an initial 15 days in custody, which is set to expire on Tuesday.

According to the police, Adhlan was arrested following an investigation into a report of child sexual abuse imagery being sold using a wallet address from Binance Exchange.

Investigators found money was wired from the wallet to Adhlan’s crypto account, while forensic analysis of his electronic devices uncovered a large quantity of photos and videos, including nude imagery of children.

The content also included videos of sexual abuse of children, stressed the police.

The case is under further investigation by the police.
