23-year-old from Milandhoo dies of dengue

A young man died of dengue fever on Monday, a day after he was transferred to the Indhira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) in Male’.

A spokesperson from IGMH confirmed the patient, identified as a 23-year-old male, died on Monday. He was being treated on a ventilator at the Intensive Care Unit of the hospital.

Sun was able to identify him as Nabhan, a young man from Sh. Milandhoo.

He was initially treated at the Milandhoo Health Center, before getting transferred to the Kulhudhuffushi Regional Hospital.

He was transferred to Male’ on Sunday as his condition continued to deteriorate.

Information shared by the Health Protection Agency (HPA) shows that the Maldives recorded 535 new cases of dengue in March alone – marking a significant rise from the same period last year, which saw only 60 cases.
