HRCM offers no new details as inquiry into deadly Dhigurah fire remains in early stages

A month after the fire that killed five foreign workers in an accommodation block in A.Dh.Dhigurah, the Human Rights Commission of the Maldives (HRCM) says it is still in the process of gathering information for its investigation.

Sun asked the commission about the progress made so far, as no details of the inquiry have been shared publicly. In a brief written response, the HRCM said the information‑collection stage remains ongoing.

“The information needed for this investigation is being gathered,” the commission said, without providing further details.

The fire broke out in a migrant workers’ accommodation block on Dhigurah. According to authorities, the blaze was caused by a gas leak. Five people were killed and two others sustained serious burn injuries in the incident.
