Maldives National Defense Force (MNDF) have responded to at least 20 fires in public spaces in Addu City so far in March.
The first incident took place on March 2, when the MNDF attended to a fire that broke out in the woods near the government flats in Hithadhoo. A second fire broke out a day later, at an uninhabited land plot next to the youth center in Maradhoo-Feydhoo.
The most recent fire took place on Wednesday night, when a pile of waste at the AFCONS site in Hulhudhoo caught fire.
Firefighters from the MNDF also attended to 17 other fire incidents in the southern city this month.
While Addu experienced 20 fires this month, the capital Male’ experienced two fires on March 19. The first took place in the morning at a warehouse located near the Galolhu Mortuary, and is being investigated as arson. The second took place later that night, at a warehouse storing chemicals and fertilizers located near the Thoiba Mosque.
