Firefighters continue working to put out the fire that started at Prime Godown on Izzuddin Magu, Male' city on March 18, 2026. (Sun Photo/Aaish Ashraf)
A fire broke out on Wednesday evening in a warehouse near Thoiba Mosque in the Maafannu ward of Male' city and power has been cut in nearby homes as firefighters battle the blaze.
The incident occurred at the Prime Fertilizer main godown, located in M. Kairu, a storage site for herbicides and chemicals. A source in the area told Sun the fire began at around 21:30.
MNDF and MACL firefighters as well as police officers are still working to extinguish the blaze.
STELCO has temporarily cut electricity to several nearby homes as a safety measure while emergency crews battle the fire.
