The first hysteroscopic myomectomy in the Maldives has been successfully performed at Ungoofaaru Regional Hospital, marking a major step forward in minimally invasive gynecological care in the country.
The procedure, carried out on Sunday, removes growths from the inner layer of the uterus without making any external incisions. Instead, doctors access the uterus through its natural opening and operate using a specialized camera system.
The surgery was led by gynecology specialist Dr. Talha.
Ungoofaaru Regional Hospital described the achievement as a significant breakthrough, noting that it expands access to safer, scar‑free treatment options for women.
The hospital also announced that it will now offer a full range of advanced hysteroscopic services, including polyp removal, fibroid removal, septum removal and infertility assessments.
According to the hospital, all these procedures are performed without cutting the outside of the body, improving patient safety and enabling faster recovery.
