Land applications open for individuals whose spouses own housing

The Housing Ministry on Sunday opened applications for land under the ‘Goathigedhoru’ program, which allows individuals whose spouses own housing to apply for land.

Applications must be submitted via the Boahiyaavahikan portal, and closed at 11:59 pm on April 30.

The scheme offers plots of 1,250 square feet from Rasmale’, and is divided into two categories; registered residents of Male’ and people from other islands who reside in Male’.

• The registry for any flat or land registered to the applicant
• In the case of registered residents of Male’, an official document showing date of registration
• A document by an employer that contributes to the pension scheme or an official document from a government institution to prove the duration of residency in Male’
• Documents from educational institutions to prove the duration of residency in Male’

The Housing Ministry also plans to introduce a special ‘Binveriya’ program for joint recipients of land under the ‘Binveriya’ scheme who wish to file individual applications instead.

The decision to introduce a new program to allow people whose spouses own housing to also apply for land comes amid concern over the eligibility criteria the government’s initial housing scheme, the Ailee Boahiyavahikan program, which disqualifies applications for land where an applicant’s spouse holds a land plot larger than 400 square feet in Male’ region.

The scheme offers 7,900 flats from the greater Male’ region and 15,000 plots of 1,250 square feet from the greater Male’ region and Rasmale’. The land scheme is divided into two categories. Registered residents of Male’ and other priority category applicants will receive land from greater Male’ and Rasmale’, while people from other islands who reside in Male’ will receive land from Rasmale’.

Applications deadline for this program was recently extended to 11:59 pm on April 30.
