The price of limes has risen to MVR 70 per kilo in the Male’ markets.
Limes, a staple in Maldivian cuisine, are usually available for MVR 30 – MVR 35 per kilo. This significant jump in the price comes amid a rise in demand during Ramadan.
Limes were available in the Male’ markets for MVR 60 at the start of Ramadan. But on Sunday, the price rose to MVR 65 – 70 per kilo.
Ramadan usually sees an increase in the price of limes, with the supply unable to cater to the rise in demand for produce the month creates.
Looking at popular produce, Kandoodhoo chilis were available on Sunday for MVR 330 – MVR 380 per kilo, papayas for MVR 50 per kilo, passion fruit for MVR 120 per kilo, and bananas for MVR 50 – MVR 60 per kilo.
Meanwhile, watermelons were available for MVR 30 per kilo, pineapple melon for MVR 35 per kilo, melon for MVR 55 per kilo, and pineapple for MVR 60 per kilo.
