Police take action after viral video shows pickup blocking ambulance on narrow Male' street

A pickup blocks the path of vehicles, including an ambulance.

A pickup‑truck driver has been fined MVR 750 and had his licence confiscated after blocking an ambulance while unloading goods on a narrow one‑way street in Male'.

A video circulating on social media shows an ambulance sounding its siren as it becomes stuck behind a small pickup that had stopped in the middle of the road to unload items. Despite the ambulance and other vehicles honking, the pickup crew continued unloading. After finishing, the driver can be heard speaking to the person filming, though the ambulance siren makes the audio unclear.

Police told Sun that the driver was penalised under traffic regulations, resulting in a MVR 750 fine and temporary licence confiscation.

The Transport Ministry said it is also investigating the incident and will take further action if required.

Blocking narrow streets to unload goods is a common issue in the capital, often causing delays for emergency vehicles navigating the city’s congested roads.
