Sri Lankan expatriate working in Feydhoo embraces Islam, adopts the name Abdullah Adam

Abdullah Adam (L), a Sri Lankan national who embraced Islam in Feydhoo, recites the Shahada inside a local mosque on February 21, 2026.

A Sri Lankan national working in Feydhoo has embraced Islam, becoming the latest in a growing number of expatriates and visitors who have converted to the faith while in the Maldives.

Jayasingha Arachchige Waruna Prabath Sadaruwan, who works at Naya Salon in Feydhoo, formally converted to Islam this week. Following his conversion, he has adopted the name Abdullah Adam.

A video circulating on social media shows the moment of his conversion inside a mosque in Feydhoo. In the footage, a Maldivian man guides him through the Shahada, the Islamic declaration of faith. As the words are recited, Abdullah Adam repeats the testimony and exchanges greetings with the witness.

The post announcing his conversion was shared in social media.

His conversion comes just days after a female tourist from Northern Ireland embraced Islam during her holiday in the Maldives, reflecting the country’s growing reputation as a place of spiritual reflection and transformation.

The Maldives has long welcomed people of diverse backgrounds, and such moments continue to highlight the personal journeys of those who find faith while living or visiting here.
