The mosque built in Bangladesh in honor of late Sheikh Ibrahim Fareed has been inaugurated.
The mosque was inaugurated during a special ceremony held in Bangladesh on Friday by late Sheikh Fareed’s two sons: Abdulla Fareed and Abdul Rahman Fareed.
The ceremony was attended by senior officials from Khidhumaiy’s partner organization, the Al-Manaahil Foundation, as well as a large number of local residents.
Sheikh Fareed’s sudden passing on June 9 of last year, while at an airport in Malaysia, was a moment of profound grief for Maldivian society. Following his death, Khidhumaiy — the NGO where Sheikh Fareed had served — announced its decision to construct a mosque in Bangladesh in his honor. The initiative was intended to commemorate his services and establish a lasting charitable contribution in his name that would continue to benefit him after his passing.
Through the generous contributions of the Maldivian public, the required funds for the project were raised within a remarkably short period.
According to the organization, the mosque inaugurated today in Bangladesh has the capacity to accommodate more than 300 worshippers at a time. The organization described the project as the beginning of a noble effort to honor Sheikh Fareed’s legacy.
In addition, responding to numerous requests from the Maldivian public, the Khidhumay has announced plans to construct another mosque in the Maldives in memory of Sheikh Ibrahim Fareed. The organization stated that the mosque, planned for Hulhumale’ Phase III, will be a large structure with the capacity to accommodate 2,500 worshippers.
Late Sheikh Ibrahim Fareed was a highly respected and distinguished figure who devoted his life to Islamic Dawah and rendered invaluable service to the Maldivian community. Through his dedicated work in religious propagation in the Maldives, he earned the love and admiration of the people. The mosques being constructed in his name represent a significant and heartfelt effort to commemorate his sincere contributions, preserve his legacy, and serve as an enduring tribute to his substantial impact on the Maldivian Ummah.
The completion and inauguration of the mosque in Bangladesh has brought great joy to Sheikh Fareed’s family and to Maldivians who held him in high esteem.
