Kuredhimaa Hingun, the main link road between Hulhumale' Phase I and Phase II, has been converted into a one‑way street.
Housing Development Corporation (HDC) said the change was introduced due to a rise in accidents in the area and is part of efforts to improve road safety.
With the new arrangement, traffic will now be allowed only in the westbound direction, towards WAMCO at the junction of Fithuroanu Magu.
HDC said it is working to make Hulhumale's roads safer and reduce accidents. The corporation has previously installed roundabouts and small speed breakers to improve traffic flow and encourage safer driving. Although the speed breakers were later removed, police noted at the time that such bumpers are widely used internationally and are effective when drivers slow down appropriately.
Police also said the installation of bumpers on Hulhumale's main road had contributed to a reduction in accidents.
