Visit Maldives has signed an agreement with Germany’s Dertour, one of Europe’s most prominent tour operators, to increase tourist arrivals from the German market.

The MoU was signed in Berlin on Tuesday during President Dr Mohamed Muizzu’s ongoing official visit to Germany. Visit Maldives Corporation CEO and Managing Director Ibrahim Shiuree signed on behalf of the corporation, while Yon Krauza, Dertour’s Director for the Indian Ocean and Asia, signed on behalf of the company.

Visit Maldives said the partnership marks a significant step in strengthening the Maldives’ presence in the European market, particularly Germany, which remains one of the country’s most important tourism sources.

Under the agreement, the two sides aim to bring at least 100,000 German tourists annually, with a target of exceeding 200,000 visitors the following year. The corporation said the initiative is designed to further consolidate Germany’s position as a key market for the Maldives.

The MoU includes joint marketing activities, integrated promotional campaigns and trade‑engagement programmes tailored to the travel patterns and seasonal preferences of German tourists. Dertour will also provide technical expertise and market insights to support Maldives’ tourism strategies, while both parties will share key tourism data to enhance planning and promotion.

The agreement also outlines plans to organise trade events and sales activations to strengthen ties with German travel‑trade partners and increase the Maldives’ visibility across Europe.

Dertour has been active in the Maldives tourism sector for many years and also holds resort investments in the country, a sign, Visit Maldives said, of the company’s continued confidence in the destination.

Germany welcomed 167,481 tourists to the Maldives last year, making it the fourth‑largest source market. So far this year, Germany ranks fifth with 18,630 arrivals.
